How To Play Sova In Valorant: Abilities, Attack & Defense

Sova is a simple Agent to play but hard to master. You will be responsible for setting your team up for success as an Initiator by getting information of the whereabouts of your enemies so that your Duelists can pursue them and get kills.

Every beginner in Valorant should start with Sova since he is the easiest to learn. Let us understand his abilities so that you can see why that is the case.

Q Ability: Shock Bolt

The Shock Bolt ability is one of Sova’s damage dealing abilities. Sova pulls out shock arrows and each arrow deals 75 damage if it hits the enemies dead on. Most of the time, you will find experienced players using them to delay enemies from entering a site on defense and using the Shock Bolt as post plant utility AKA playing lineups on attack.

The best way to utilize this ability is to learn lineups which can do a lot of damage in post plants or fire them in chokepoints when you know enemies are entering.

E Ability: Recon Bolt

The information seeking ability of Sova. The Recon Bolt fires an arrow that pings enemies and reveals their location, if it isn’t destroyed. The Recon Bolt is quite important in lots of situations. Number one, it can get you information when you are thinking of entering a site and number two, in higher levels of play, it acts as a bait so you can swing with it.

Again, the best thing you can do with this ability is learn lineups on various maps that can set your team up for success.

C Ability: Owl Drone

The Owl Drone is a remote controlled drone that Sova deploys that gathers information in the direction it is steered for 7 secs unless destroyed. You can easily control the Drone and you can also press the Fire button to mark enemies. The marking capability resets every five seconds so you can only use it twice per drone.

A lot of professional players save this for when they are entering site to guide their Duelists to take space. Otherwise, you can always use the drone to mark and enemy and then use your Ultimate for free kills.

X Ability: Hunter’s Fury

Speaking of Sova’s Ultimate, the Hunter’s Fury can be lethal in the right hands; multikills, post plant successes, plant denial, you name it, it has it’s uses. With the Hunter’s Fury, you can fire three projectiles and each of them does 80 damage through walls. The best thing to do here is to combine either your Recon Bolt or your Owl Drone to get information on the enemy and then use the Hunter’s Fury to get kills.

The enemies hit by the projectiles take damage but also reveal their location for one second which can help with follow up shots.

How To Play Sova On Attack

On attack, your plan of action and approach for the game should be to gather information and communicate with your team on where they need your utility. Most of the time, you will find yourself playing with the team and swinging with them on various angles. Aside from that, your utility will be used to gain information on sites so that your Duelists can enter and take fights. You must be vigilant enough to take fights.

The Owl Drone should be used to clear close angles when you approach sites and the Recon Dart should be launched in spots behind boxes or on top of sites to get a clear picture of the enemy’s defenses. We urge you to save the Shock Bolts for post plants. You will have to learn line-ups for every map you play so that you can rely on your utility to secure Spike explosions.

Aside from that, your Ultimate is the best delay tool which can disrupt enemy retakes and even Spike defusing attempts. If you do all of these things, then slowly, you can learn how to be a good Sova main.

How To Play Sova On Defense

Sova on defense can be an absolute nuisance to deal with it, especially on maps like Ascent or Sunset where spamming can be easy. Your Recon Darts will allow you to spam enemies through smokes and get easy kills. However, for that, you will have to wait for opportune times and use the Phantom so that your tracers aren’t visible.

Sova’s abilities can be used in various ways. For example, you can use it to get early information on the enemy’s whereabouts, once you do, you can use that info to stack sites. In addition, if your Duelists want to take early peeks, you can use your Recon Bolt or the Owl Drone to clear close angles or get info on the enemy’s position so your Duelists can take peeks.

Aside from that, your Hunter’s Fury should be used to try to get an early advantage or in retakes to disrupt enemy positions and equalize numbers.
