Persona 5 Royal has its fair share of suprises up its sleeve and despite being a JRPG, it has fun semi-open world elements in cognitive contraptions known as Palaces. These palaces are built inside the minds of the villains and sometimes innocents who our Phantom Thieves of Hearts must stop before their innermost desires take over their entire personality and ruin lives.
Now, there are various sources online which claim that there are 7, some claim there are ten, let us see how many palaces are in Persona 5 Royal.
How Many Palaces In Persona 5 Royal?
There are 9 total palaces in Persona 5 Royal, including the Mementos and Dr.Takuto Maruki’s Palace which is exclusive to Persona 5 Royal. All palaces have their distinct visual appearances and are fun to navigate. Not to mention, half of the adventures in those palaces give you a new character to play with.
Here are the palaces listed down.
Palace Name | Owner Of The Palace | What It’s Like |
---|---|---|
Castle of Lust | Suguru Kamoshida | Standard medieval castle-like appearance |
Museum of Vanity | Ichiryusai Madarame | Museum featuring all of the artwork ideas Madarame stole from his students |
Bank of Gluttony | Junya Kaneshiro | A bank like facility featuring money and advanced security |
Pyramid of Wrath | Futaba Sakura | A pyramid |
Spaceport of Greed | Kunikazu Okumura | A Big Bang Burger facility in the future where employees are treated harshly |
Casino of Envy | Sae Niijima | A casino exploring Sae Nijima’s character |
Cruiser of Pride | Masayoshi Shido | A luxury cruise liner |
Prison of Sloth | Everyone | House of the Holy Grail, very grunge and slimey and tentacly |
Laboratory of Sorrow | Takuto Maruki | A labratory which conducts experiments on people’s psyche |
The game is beautifully paced and you won’t find yourself grinding your characters to dust before you face a boss unlike the previous Persona games. Exploring each of these palaces will be a ton of fun and won’t feel like a chore.
Why Palaces Is The Best Thing To Happen To Persona 5
These beautifully designed palaces are some of the most fun aspects of the JRPG besides the social aspects like hanging out with your friends or going on dates. From the Casino of Envy to the Pyramid of Wrath, every place offers something different rather than Tartarus from Persona 3 which just changes up the layout and adds a fresh coat of paint over each level.
You can see the effort the developers of the game took to design these beautiful cognitive structures and give them enough characterization to humanize the worst aspects of people’s psyches. You can really understand the depth of the sins that are housed in people’s minds when the Phantom Thieves start exploring the people’s minds.
Persona 5’s unique structure and the involvement of palaces is something Atlus should think about incorporating in every other Persona game they make. It is fun, it is exciting, it is ridiculous and it is something the franchise needs.
