Fallout 4 brought about a revolution in the adventure shooter genre that featured elements such as base building, cultivating relationships, extremely detailed character customization and a variety of weapons that will put the Doom Slayer to shame. It is one of the best games made in modern times which prompted a wave of studios to borrow elements to make their own games a success.
For people who have played Fallout 4 and loved it, finding something that scratches the same itch is quite difficult. However, if you look hard enough, there are games that can provide the same level of complexity as Fallout 4. Let us look at the best games to play if you like Fallout 4.
The Top 6 Best Video Games To Play If You Like Fallout 4
If you like the Fallout series in general, these are the best games to play that are like Fallout 4. The criteria several features such as a huge open world, character customization, relationship cultivating aspects, high octane action, games that provide the zombie apocalypse experience or all of the above. Essentially, a game that provides the same elements or borrows on the concept/experience of Fallout.
The Outer Worlds
It might not be the most popular or even liked action RPGs out there but Outer Worlds is a fun game. Essentially, you take control of a ship in space and charter it around the galaxy with a rag tag group of individuals. Aside from the gameplay which resembles the Borderlands franchise a lot, the game’s customization, out of pocket humor and the ability to blend all of these quirky characteristics perfectly makes the Outer Worlds a great title if you want something fresh after Fallout 4.
There are many games which are similar to Fallout 4 but the resemblance this game has to Fallout New Vegas and its colorful palette makes us think it is the best choice for an average Fallout fan if they have experienced everything in the franchise.
Metro Exodus
If you are looking for post apocalyptic titles, then the Metro franchise is a strong contender to scratch that itch of yours. Now, Metro Exodus resembles Fallout 4 quite closely since it also shows a brutal landscape of a battered and bruised Earth after the apocalypse.
Brutal environments, different weapons, great graphics and pacing along with an added emphasis on survival of the fittest is what makes this Metro title one of the best and a suitable follow up for Fallout 4. Its story and gameplay will keep you at the edge of your seat and you won’t be able to unglue your eyes off the screen until the credits roll.
Mad Max
Max has had many outings over the years stuffing legions of fans in theatres. However, there is a lesser known rendition of Max in smaller screens. Mad Max, the video game is a great open world game for fans of the franchise but also a slobber knocker to say the least. The gameplay is fast paced, there is an added emphasis on vehicular combat and the sad desolate landscape is what every Fallout fan will like. Rolling through the sands in your car and taking out legions of weirdos makes this game fun and exciting.
With graphics and character progression elements that hold up well to this day, the Mad Max game is something that we recommend you try out. The most appealing aspect is the story and how you can customize your car to do everything from pulling, shooting, deflecting and a lot more. Going around swinging at punks and traversing the wastelands in style is what Mad Max is about.
Dying Light
Dying Light is another zombie apocalypse game and its appeal comes from the sheer variety of zombies you face. The story might be standard but it more than makes up for it in gameplay and gore. A game that combines horror and the panic of being chased by zombies perfectly, Dying Light will be an immediate favorite for you once you get your first zombie kill.
The missions are fun and intuitive, there are variety of weapons to choose from, the parkour is fun and will keep you entertained until the very end. A zombie apocalypse adventure like this is never not fun.
Bulletstorm
Bulletstorm is Fallout 4 but way too comedic. The game does not take itself seriously at all and does a lot of over the top stuff to keep the players entertained. You can do things like take someone’s head off with a bullet while they are in the air in slow motion or be petty and shoot that same bullet in their ass. Bulletstorm is one of the most fun games we have ever played and the set pieces in the game makes it feel like an award winning critically acclaimed shooter, which surprisingly it isn’t.
In all essence, everything in Bulletstorm is there so you can shoot it. From explosives to enemies and their rectums. Bulletstorm’s biggest appeal is that there are many weapon combinations you can use and intuitively plan how you can dismember your enemies. Think of it as Doom, Fallout and Borderlands rolled into one with Deadpool’s humor.
Borderlands 2
Borderlands 2 is a fantastic game if your objective is to have fun, destroy stuff and you enjoy dry humor and fourth wall breaks. The best title out of the Borderlands franchise, Borderlands 2 is a ton of fun, especially if you want a Fallout 4 like experience. Granted the game might not have base building and the like, but the character customization, upgrade menu, skill tree and the sheer amount of weaponry and loot make the game worth playing.
The story is quite long and it will keep you occupied for hours to come and as you level up and get better, so do your enemies, there is never a dull moment. Borderlands 2 has tons of memorable characters, set pieces and over the top missions which make no sense except in the Borderlands franchise. This game might not be as serious as the Fallout franchise, but it doesn’t need to be.
