With the release of the new Borderlands movies, which is not that good if you are an OG fan, there will be lots of public coming to the franchise. Aside from the prequel games and spinoffs, the original Borderlands games are the pinnacle of crazy.

Borderlands is not your traditional single player FPS game. It is edgy, crazy, explosive and does not shy away from making the most overpowered gun combinations that will destroy anything and everything on Pandora. However, if you have already experienced the chaos and need something more, we have a list of what could satiate that crazy lust for skag killing.

Here are the best games like Borderlands you should play today.

Top 5 Games Like Borderlands You Should Get Your Hands On

Borderlands is high octane action wrapped in skag crap tied together with a metal chain made with guns tied to it. It is one of the most fun franchises to get into. However, if you have already experienced the chaos, we recommend getting the same amount of crazy action somewhere else that has similar dry humor and occasional fourth wall breaks. Here’s where you should start.

Sunset Overdrive

The art style of Sunset Overdrive and Borderlands are quite similar. Not just that, both games have a lot of stuff in common. There’s lots of killing, dry humor, absolute chaos, good customization, needless jokes, and lots of weapons, we mean LOTS of weapons.

Sunset Overdrive takes you into Sunset City where a zombie outbreak has made way for the ‘Awesomepocalypse.’ Your customized character has the ability to shoot, jump, surf and even wall climb like a chimpanzee. That is exactly what you will be doing when you are faced with exploding creatures.

With Borderlands like character introductions, out of pocket missions, a variety of weapons, a pumped up soundtrack and dry voice acting, Sunset Overdrive will NOT let you down.

The Outer Worlds

The Outer Worlds is quite similar to Borderlands as you patrol around different planets with your crew. This ragtag bunch is like Fallout 4 but in space minus all the building. You will have to reinforce your friendships and there are skills you can upgrade and various weapons you can switch between. The weapons themselves are quite unique and do everything from exploding to burning and more.

This game might not be everyone’s cup of tea but if you want to go on a space adventure just like Borderlands, then this game might just be for you. There are some instances of dry humor as well and the map of the world has many things to do. The side missions are fun and you have to reconsider before placing allegiances since it might hinder your progress and make enemies.

Outriders

If you can find people online playing this game then Outriders is a must try. Just like the Borderlands franchise, this game is co-op and players have the ability to choose between four different classes. It is a third person shooter as opposed to Borderlands’ first person.

You have access to many weapons from shotguns to ARs and everything in between to take down your enemies. The more you progress in the game, the tougher the enemies get but you obtain better loot just like the Borderlands games. Aside from the art style, this is the closest you can get to playing the Borderlands games without actually playing them.

Rage 2

This first person shooter has the same amount of craziness as Borderlands as it is evident by the poster itself. The open world and story might not be on par with Borderlands but the combat is sure to keep it entertaining. You take control of someone called Walker and it is possible to customize their gender and appearance. You have an arsenal of weapons you can use to fight your enemies with along with Nanotrite powers which can give you an edge.

The best part about the game is the ability to ride any vehicle in the world ranging from trucks and buggies to even gyrocopters. Vehicle based combat is a huge part of the game just like the Borderlands franchise and makes disposing your enemies a whole lot easier. Rage 2 might not be on par with Borderlands but it is fun as its own title.

Note: You can also try the first Rage game which is known as the “Borderlands clone.”

Dead Island 2

Okay this might be a step farther plot wise but Dead Island 2 is quite similar to Borderlands in terms of combat and the variety of weapons you can obtain in the game. Besides, facing zombies is always fun. Besides, the ability to select a character that has unique abilities that can assist you in getting kills is quite resembling of the Borderlands franchise.

There are many deck building options which are going to help you with your zombie slaying. The weapons themselves have a shelf life so there’s a chance of breakage but if you routinely repair them, you’ll be fine. The plot is your simple run of the mill zombie apocalypse plot but we assume you are playing for the craziness and the gore and not the finer points.
